Hi everyone! The amazingly talented Dot at Busted Button has nominated me to take part in this fun blog hop. What better way to give a little TLC to my little blog?!
What am I working on?
Oh gosh it just seems like I'm always working on a billion things!! Besides spending time with my wee ones and taking care of the day to day, I always have some projects on the go. Mostly I work on them in the evenings when the girls are in bed. Right now I'm working on a sweet little yarn haired doll and a spunky little zombie rag doll. (I only have a really horrid cell pic of my current doll - please don't judge)
How does my creative process work?
I'm not sure if it's much of a process, haha. I always have ideas floating around in my head of things I want to make. They basically duke it out until one of them hops to the front of my mind. Sometimes I stop by one of our local yarn stores and run my fingers through all of the yummy wools and one or two (or six) call my name. Other times I browse my fabric stash and pull something out that I love and have probably been wanting to use for a while. I'm constantly inspired by the creative people around me and the things they do, it fuels the little handmade fire inside of me. :)
This is a continuous blog hop hosted by different artists/bloggers every week. In the next week or so, I’ll be passing the torch to two of my absolute fave Canadian crafters! I just have to decide who... :)

I'm baaaack!!!
I have to admit, it's been over a year since I've blogged. I've been so immersed in my little world that I keep forgetting to elaborate. I've also been all over the map trying new things to see what it is that I like to do best. So here it is, I think I've figured out where I'm going to be focusing my sewing time for the next little while. Until I try something new, which will probably be tomorrow. ;)
Dolls. I love making them. I love watching them take on their own little personality even if it's only in my head. I basically have two types of dolls that I love to make and then of course there are a few variations within. :)
I have such a soft spot for rag dolls. Their simplicity and floppiness and watching my own children carry them around and snuggle them. I love it when clients send me photos of their kids clinging onto dollies that I've made. I've switched gears a little bit in how I'm making them so that people can see what a doll looks like before they buy it but still have it personalized. I plan on making up a variety of dolls with different features so that hopefully one is just right. :)
The other type of doll I adore making is waldorf inspired. These dolls are a far cry from actual Waldorf dolls but some things remain the same. I sculpt their heads by hand using fluffy white wool. I embroider their eyes and mouths as well. These dolls are made using almost all natural materials. They take a lot of time to make and are purely a labour of love. Because of the high cost of the materials to make them and the sheer amount of time, they do cost quite a bit more than my simple rag dolls. These dolls do come in different shapes and sizes as well. There is the classic yarn hair with no sculpting:
There's the doll with some facial sculpting and wefted mohair:
There's the sweet little baby doll:
And just for fun there's the wee little pajama doll:
And just because I think they're fun, I plan on making the occasional tea set. :)
At any given time I likely have about three of these projects in the works, for some reason this is how my mind operates. If you like what you see, check out my Facebook page because that's where I give most of my updates and information on how to take these things home with you.
Also, thank you to everyone for your many kind words and inspiration it really does make what I do pure joy. :)

My not so secret addiction
I am completely addicted to fabric. If you could see my mom's spare room, you would know I come by it honestly. :) I'm pretty sure there is nothing more exciting than going on a vacation and exploring new fabric stores, or at least ones you don't get to often.
This last weekend I was away for a couple of days and managed to sneak away from my kids long enough to peek around the local fabric store. I just loved every minute. The choices were different from what I have at home and it took all of my resolve not to go a bit crazy.
The one thing I find is that inevitably every time I pick up a few bolts of fabric and take them to the counter, the ladies working there think I must be making the most mismatched quilt possible. It never fails that they tentatively ask me "sooo... what are you making?..." and then the relief that spreads over their face when I explain that I don't actually know, I just have a fabric addiction. :)
And then they look happy because they know I'll be back, but I won't, at least not until my next vacation...

A Doll for her Birthday
I've been making a lot of dolls lately. So many that sometimes I forget how much my own children have been wanting them. I have to hide them from my youngest or she'll beg and beg to snuggle them, and knowing how grubby her little hands can get it's never a good idea to have something I'd rather she didn't destroy. :)
I decided last week to put a hold on accepting anymore custom orders so that I could focus on making her her very own special doll. Her birthday is coming up in just over a week and I managed to get her dolly finished and clothed. Of course, now I'll have to do one for her older sister or I'll never hear the end of it.
So I introduce you to Lilah.
I just love this doll. It was actually my oldest who asked for a doll with pink and purple hair and I decided that I'd do them both similarly so that the fighting would be minimal. I love how every last bit of her (well, besides the sequined belt on her dress that my daughter picked out one day at the fabric store) is all natural. Her hair and stuffing are pure wool, her skin is cotton, her cheeks are beeswax blushed. She was made with a ton of love and I really like to think it comes through.
So Happy Birthday my little darling! Treat her well!
